About the Instructor:
Johana Cordero is a textile and clothing designer based out of Toronto and has a BFA in Textiles and Fashion from the Nova Scotia College of Art and Design.
Born in Colombia, she grew up in a vibrant mountainous landscape and surrounded by the energy of South American culture. Her work stems from a desire to create beautiful textile pieces that embrace the traditional techniques of craft. Inducing a modern day alchemy that thrives on natural colours, she uses plant based dyes such as avocado pits, onion skins, logwood chips, madder root and marigold petals to dye natural fibres. She combines techniques of silk screen, weaving, embroidery, and beading in her work to enhance texture and pattern.
