Meet your new go-to summer knit.

Paloma was inspired by a very special yarn. The moment I felt its extraordinary softness and beautiful drape, I knew I wanted to create something simple that would let those qualities shine.

Although Suri alpaca offers a different knitting experience from mohair, I was delighted to discover that it can create equally beautiful fluffy fabrics with a little more drape and body. For me, it also has the added benefit of letting me enjoy the knitting process without feeling unwell, as I do when working with mohair.

Another surprise came once I finished the sample. I wore Paloma on a warm summer afternoon and found that it was light and breathable enough to wear on its own as a top. As the weather cooled, I layered it over a shirt and loved it just as much as a knitted vest. That versatility quickly made it one of those simple wardrobe pieces I know I’ll reach for again and again.

For my sample, I used a very special yarn from my dear friend Antonella of Cosy Posy Yarn Co. Her Fluff base, a luxurious blend of Suri alpaca and silk, gives Paloma its soft, airy texture. The pattern can also be knit by holding any two lace weight yarns together, or with a single strand of DK weight yarn, giving you endless possibilities for colour and texture.

Notes
This vest is worked in the round from the bottom up to underarms. Then the back and front are worked separately with shaping for armholes, neckline and shoulders. The front and back are then joined using the Three-Needle Bind-Off method for a seamless finish.
