  • Hand Dyeing Yarn

We are unbelievably excited to now offer all of the supplies needed to dye your own yarn, as well as classes on hand dyeing. As a maker, hand-dyeing yarn offers another way to connect to the work you create. The process is a beautiful way to use everyday inspirations like sunsets, fog shrouded beaches or flower gardens, and recreate them in a skein of yarn. Colour is one of the highest forms of expression. Nature is illustrative of the emotional impact of colour – the happiness we associate with bright red and pink blooms and lush greens or the calmness of grey blues...

  • Free Craft Classes: building our communities

We're lucky enough to be members of an incredibly art-filled, inclusive, and diverse city. On any street corner in downtown Toronto, colourful and creative art welcomes you through murals, sculptures, and incredible street art. A creative pulse runs through this colourful city, and it would be impossible to imagine Toronto without the people and art that make it so vibrant. We believe public access to art is critical to the vibrancy, happiness, and health of a community. Whether it be street art by the talented artists of our community, public events such as Toronto's annual Nuit Blanche, the efforts of the Koreatown BIA in beautifying the planters in...

  • Tapestry Weaving: An ancient artform gets a makeover

Have you tried the latest craze in crafting? Tapestry weaving has been a historically important art form for millennia, but these modern hand woven tapestries are distinctly modern! Their simplicity and speed make hand woven tapestries a great project for crafters looking to get started in textile arts. These were hand woven on the Ashford Weaving Frame, solidly built silver beech hardwood frames that are compact enough to make it a very portable...

  • Using DMC for Embroidery

We started carrying DMC embroidery floss before the holidays, and aside from a few appearances in  posts we haven't featured any embroidery or cross-stitch on the blog! Nonetheless, word of mouth has been quite a force, and we've seen quite an appetite for beautiful floss — we're also carrying hand-dyed floss from Valdani and sets of Anna Maria Horner pearl cotton — as well as an interest in books about hand-stitching. We're thrilled, though not surprised — besides being beautiful all on their own, embroidery and cross-stitch make are a lovely way to add interest to sewn or knit items. Just look at how gorgeous these simple napkins and...
