  • Using DMC for Embroidery

We started carrying DMC embroidery floss before the holidays, and aside from a few appearances in  posts we haven't featured any embroidery or cross-stitch on the blog! Nonetheless, word of mouth has been quite a force, and we've seen quite an appetite for beautiful floss — we're also carrying hand-dyed floss from Valdani and sets of Anna Maria Horner pearl cotton — as well as an interest in books about hand-stitching. We're thrilled, though not surprised — besides being beautiful all on their own, embroidery and cross-stitch make are a lovely way to add interest to sewn or knit items.

Just look at how gorgeous these simple napkins and placemats look with these stitched details. We love how the details veggies balance the more simple design of the halved fruit, and the way the gingham border (and backing) of the placemats is echoed in the green designs on the napkins. Doesn't this just make you think of summer meals outside?

In addition to floss and thread, we carry embroidery needles (of varying sizes), hoops, small scissors, thimbles, and will soon be stocked with fabric for cross-stitch. We're really excited to be adding hand-stitching to our repertoire of making! It's such an excellent compliment to knitting and crochet, and will definitely help us in our pursuits of hand quilting.

We carry both needles and wooden hoops in various sizes in the shop.
